HIKES
Steigen has amazing hiking opportunities. Here you can find a hike for everyone - both easier hikes in the low land and more challenging mountain hikes. You can find them on here on Engeløya and in the rest of Steigen. Most of the hikes are well marked.

Skiing
Steigen is a good ski destination in the winter for cross-country skiing both on and off track. Steigen is has some ski tracks in the winter time. For the ones daring to go off track you have lots of possibilities. One popular destination is Småtindan.

Bike, kayak and boat rental
We highly recommend renting a bike, a kayak or a boat to explore the island and the waters around it. There are endless possibilities with a bike on the island and with a kayak or a boat you can explore the nearby islands.
It is possible to rent bikes, kayaks and boats on the island. If you are interested in renting tell the hosts when requesting a stay.
RIB boat trips are also a possibility!

“Experience one of Europe’s largest coastal fortifications from the Second World War. Three of the world’s largest guns were here firing shells with a diameter of 40.6 cm. The fortifications guarded the entrance to Vestfjorden and the important route to Narvik, from where iron ore from Sweden was shipped to the German arms industry.”

Bøsanden
Bøsanden is a almost one kilometre long beach surrounded by mountains. Bøsanden is located on Engeløya and from the beach you have an impeccable view of Lofotveggen. We recommend that everyone pays this beach a visit.
You can also bring a tent and stay here over night.
Midnight sun and northern lights
Here on the island Engeløya you can experience the amazing midnight sun Northern Norway is so famous for - with Lofotveggen in the background! It is a magical feeling being in Stegberget at the far end of the island seeing the sun’s flames in the sky. This is one of the benefits of visiting Engeløya in the summer times.
If you visit in the late autumn or winter, however, you might, on a quiet and clear night, witness the spectacular northern lights in all its beauty. This will be a sight you will not forget!
